So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

LaRue, the daughter of Clovis and Alta J. Lyons Ferrin, was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Burley, Idaho, where she was raised and educated. She married Floyd Donald Smith on Feb. 2, 1941, in Burley. To this union was born six children, Donald, Alta, Sandy "LeRoy," George, Mary Ann and Floyd. Following the death of her husband, Floyd, in 1967, LaRue married George Ray Bateman on May 29, 1971, in Elko, Nev. They spent many happy years together traveling with the Kamper Kooks. Ray passed away in October of 1980. She then married Willard Laurel Hawkins on July 4, 1981, and they spent nearly 27 years together until his passing just three weeks ago. She was the first woman school bus driver in Minidoka County and prior to retirement, LaRue worked at IPPI that later became Ore-Ida Foods. LaRue was a very special lady. She enjoyed the outdoors and especially liked camping and traveling throughout the country. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed her family. There was simply nothing that LaRue couldn't do. In 2004, she could no longer stay at home. Countryside Care & Rehab became her home. Here, she made many new friends and became "Grandma" to several employees. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in various callings. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Donald (Marie) Smith of Burley, Alta Rasmussen of Jerome, Sandy "LeRoy" (Youko) Smith of Redmond, Wash., Mary Ann (Skip) Johnston of Spokane, Wash., and Floyd (Donel) Smith of Heyburn; 18 grandchildren; 41 ½ great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Lloyd Thomas (Doris) Ferrin of Centerville, Utah, LaVell (Louise) Ferrin of Rupert, Dean Edward (Betty) Ferrin of Blackfoot, and Darla Jean Rust of St. George, Utah; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Ferrin of Rupert and Connie Naylor of Eagle. In addition to her husbands, LaRue was preceded in death by her parents; one son, George; and three brothers, Floyd, Warren and Norman Ferrin. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the Rupert West LDS Stake Center, 36 S. 100 W. in Rupert, with Bishop Bob Trevino officiating. Burial will be in the Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St. in Burley, and from noon until 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Minidoka Memorial Hospital, Countryside Care & Rehab, and to Dr. Margo Saunders for the tender care given to LaRue.
