So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

Cornelius married Elizabeth Hadden on August 3rd, 1809 in Montgomery Co., Kentucky.

He was a veteran of the War of 1812, in which he served three times. First he was a private in the 3rd Regt. Kentucky Mounted Riflemen under Capt. William Farrow from Sept. 1812 to Oct. 1812. Next he was a private in Detached Kentucky Militia under Lt. Col. William Dudley from Mar. 1813 to sept. 1813. His wife's Claim of 1855 states that Cornelius was taken prisoner at the Battle of Dudley's Defeat(May 5, 1813). His last service was as a private in the Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Infantry under Capt. Micajah McClung and Maj. Peter Dudley.

He moved his family from Kentucky to the area of Putnam and Hendricks counties, Indiana in the 1830s.

By profession Cornelius was a Cumberland Presbyterian preacher and rode a circuit in Indiana. He was also an excellent singer and in some sources was named, "The Sweet Singer of Israel". It is said that he became ill on one of his circuit rides and made an agonizing trip home, just in time to die at home.

The Family Bible of Alfred Summers records his death, "Cornelius Summers departed this life May the 4th in the year of our Lord 1843."
