Ellen is Wd Linn County Budget Gazette, Wednesday, March 18, 1936, Page 4, coulmn 3: Funeral For Mrs. Blackburn Today --- The funeral fro Mrs. Mary Ellen Blackburn, who passed away at the home of her son, George Blackburn, about seven miles north of Brookfield, Monday morning, March 16, 1936, was conducted at the Christian church at Purdin this afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. C. W. Cornn, pastor of the Brookfield Christian Church, and burial made in Grantsville cemetery. The remains were brought to Brookfield where it laid in state until noon today at the Bowden funeral home. Mary Elle, daughter of Silas and Charlotte Hale, was born near Mendota, Illinois, November 3, 1851, and came to Missouri with her paretns when but a child and resided on a farm east of Purdin. On September 4, 1879, she was united in marriage with James W. Blackburn, of the same community. To this union, eight chiildren were born, seven of whom survive. They are J. S. Blackburn, of Brookfield; Anna Blackburn, recently of Kansas City; Silas M., Harrison W., and George S., of the old neighborhood; Mrs. E. F. Woolf, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Lottie Blackburn of Ann Arbor, Michigan. John A. died at about the age ofd seven years, and the husband preceded the wife and mother in death February 3, 1924. Besides the sons and daughters, she leaves one brother, Charles Sumner Hale of Kansas City. Mrs. Blackburn was an ardent church worker, a good neighbor, a loving mother and had a host of friends who along with the relatives mourn her departure.
