    • His parents and origins are unknown. He arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1632 on "the second boat.". He married first to Patience Hurst, daughter of James Hurst, before June 7, 1632, when their son John was born. Patience arrived in Plymouth with her father in 1631.

      Henry and Patience moved to Scituate in 1634 and Barnstable in 1639. Henry was a Tavern Keeper and was licensed to draw wine at Barnstable June 5, 1644.

      Henry and Patience were member numbers #7 & #8 at the founding of Scituate church on January 8, 1634/5. On December 15, 1635 he was invested into the office of Deacon at Scituate. He was ordained ruling elder of Barnstable church April 14, 1670.

      He was educated and signed his name to coroner's jury findings. His inventory included books valued at 24s. He was admitted Freeman on January 1, 1632/3. His offices included Deputy for Barnstable, Coroner's jury, Plymouth petit jury and Excise collector for Barnstable. He was on the 1643 list of Plymouth men able to bear arms and on the committee for defense of Barnstable October 10, 1643.

      He married second to Sarah Hinckley on December 12, 1649. She was the daughter of Samuel Hinckley and his wife Sarah Soole. Sarah Hinckley was the sister of Thomas Hinckley who was the Governor of Plymouth Colony from 1681 to 1692.

      Henry's will was written April 4, 1678, and proved June 3, 1679.

      A genealogical profile of Henry Cobb

      Birth: Henry Cobb was born in England about 1607, based on
      the estimated date of his first marriage.
      Death: He died between February 22, 1678/9, and June 3,
      1679.
      Ship: Unknown, 1632
      Life in England: Nothing is known of his life in England.
      Life in New England: Henry Cobb first appeared in the
      Plymouth records in the 1633 list of freemen. He and his wife
      were among the first members of Rev. John Lothrop’s church in
      Scituate, having moved there before September 1634. When
      Rev. Lothrop removed to Barnstable, the Cobbs were among
      the congregation that accompanied him. In 1635 Henry Cobb
      was made a deacon in the church, and in 1670 he was ordained
      the ruling elder. Henry Cobb served as a deputy to the
      Plymouth court for a number of years, as well as on many juries.
      On June 5, 1644, he was licensed to draw wine at Barnstable,
      and therefore kept a tavern.
      Family: Henry Cobb married (1) Patience Hurst by 1632 and
      had seven children. She was buried on May 4, 1648, in
      Barnstable. He married (2) Sarah Hinckley on December 12,
      1649, in Barnstable and had eight children. She died before
      March 2, 1679/80.
      Children of Henry and Patience Cobb:
      • John was born in Plymouth on June 7, 1632. He married
      Martha Nelson in Plymouth on April 28, 1658, and had five
      children. He died in Plymouth on February 21, 1714/5.
      • James was born in Plymouth on January 14, 1634. He married
      Sarah Lewis in Barnstable on December 26, 1663, and
      had eleven children. She married (2) Jonathan Sparrow on
      November 23, 1698 as his third wife.
      • Mary was born in Scituate on March 24, 1636/7. She married
      Jonathan Dunham in Plymouth on October 15, 1657, as his
      second wife and had six children. He died in Edgartown on
      December 18, 1717.
      • Hannah was born in Scituate on October 5, 1639. She married
      Edward Lewis in Barnstable on May 9, 1661, and had
      four children.
      • Patience was born about March 15, 1641/2, in Barnstable. She
      married (1) Robert Parker in August 1667 as his second wife
      and had eight children. He died by March 2, 1684/5. She
      married (2) William Crocker after June 1, 1685. She died on
      October 23, 1727.
      • Gershom was born in Barnstable in January 1644/5. He died,
      unmarried, during King Philip’s War, and was buried in
      Swansea on June 24, 1675.
      • Eliezer was born in Barnstable about March 30, 1648. He was
      living on Barnstable in 1703, apparently unmarried.

      • Mehitable was born in Barnstable on September 1, 1651. She
      was buried there on March 8, 1651/2. Can't be burried before birth
      • Samuel was born in Barnstable on October 12, 1654. He married
      Elizabeth ______ (possibly Taylor) on December 20,
      1680 ,and had ten children. She died on May 4, 1721. He died
      on December 27, 1727.
      • Sarah was born in Barnstable on January 15, 1658, and was
      buried ten days later.
      • Jonathan was born in Barnstable on April 10, 1660. He married
      Hope (Chipman) Huckins as her second husband on
      March 1, 1682/3, and had six children.
      • Sarah was born in Barnstable on March 10, 1662/3. She married
      Samuel Chipman in Barnstable on December 27, 1686,
      and had ten children.
      • Henry was born in Barnstable on September 3, 1665. He
      married Lois Hallet in Barnstable on April 10, 1690, and had
      four children. He removed to Stonington, Connecticut, about
      October 9, 1715.
      • Mehitable was born in Barnstable on February 15, 1667.

      The last will and testament of Mr. Henry Cobb made 4 April 1673 and exhibited before the Court held at Plymouth, 3 June 1679 on the oaths of Mr Thomas Hinckley and Mistress Mary Hinckley, his wife as followeth:
      I Henry Cobb of Barnstable though weak in body yet through the mercy of God of disposing mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life; I am desirous according to my duty to set things in order before I go hence, and therefore do make this my last will and testament hereby revoking and disannulling all former will and wills by word or writing heretofore by me made; an do hereby constitute and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following, viz. After my desire to commit my soul to God, in Jesus Christ who gave it and my body to decent burial; when God shall please to call me hence; and as touching my worldly estate which God hath beyond my deserts bestowed on me, my will is to dispose of it as followeth:
      Imp: My will is that all my debts in right or conscience to any man due, shall be first discharged by my executrix hereafter named; in convenient time out of my estate; Item I will and bequeath my great lot of land in Barnstable unto my son, James Cobb and to his heirs and assigns forever; he having heretofore paid five pounds to my son, John Cobb for his interest therein; and whereas I heretofore gave half my lands at Suconeesett unto my sons, John, James, Gershom and Elezer equally to be divided betwixt them which was with my consent sold and exchanged; and 40 shillings being in the hand of my son, James for my son, Eliezer's part thereof my will is that my son, James pay unto his brother Eliezer that 40 shillings in pay current with the merchant; Item I will and bequeath my new dwelling house and all the rest of my lands both upland and meadow unto Sarah, my dear and loving wife, during her natural life for her support; and bringing up the children I had by her.
      Item my will is that after her decease, my son, Samuel shall have my dwelling house and two acres of my upland; and an acre and a half of my marsh; which I bought with his stock being the one half of a parcel of marsh, lying at Sandy Neck; in partnership with my son, James. Item I will and bequeath to my sons Samuel, Jonathan and Henry all the rest of my lands both upland and meadows, to be equally divided betwixt them after my said wife's decease or sooner if she see cause, to each of them, their heirs and assigns forever; Item I give and bequeath unto my sons, John, Gershom and Eliezer one shilling to each of them, and to my daughters, Mary, Hannah and Patience to each of them one shilling out of my estate; Item I will and bequeath to my daughter, Sarah my second best bed and furniture thereunto belonging. Item I will and bequeath all the rest of my estate in whatsoever it be within doors or without unto Sarah, my loving wife; whom I do by these presents, constitute and declare to be my sole executrix. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal; the date aforesaid with this word half enterlined before insealing hereof. Henry Cobb and a seal. In the presence of Thomas Hinckley, Assistant and Mary Hinckley.
      On further consideration I the within or above mentioned Henry Cobb have caused this codicil to be added to this my last will and testament viz. my will is that my son, Samuel shall have only two acres of my upland together with the marsh at Sandy Neck within mentioned after my wife's decease; and all the rest of my lands to be equally divided between my said three sons Samuel, Jonathan, and Henry as above mentioned.
      And further my will is that my son, Henry shall have my now dwellng house after my wife's decease, and his part of the land aforesaid to lie most convenient to the said house only my lands at the land shall be equally divided between them my said three sons, whom I will that they shall give liberty to my son, James to dry thatch on one half of an acre of the said land; when the English corn is taken off in such place whereof as they shall annually appoint, unto him; in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22nd day of February 1678.
