Isaac and Heidi Smith Family Spotlight

I am married to S. Isaac Smith (no previous relation). We currently have five children: Savannah 7, Charlotte 6, Madelynn 3, Zachary is almost 2, and Caroline is 4 months old. I am from North Georgia. My husband is in the Army as a helicopter pilot, and we are currently stationed at Fort Rucker, AL.

I met Isaac when I was living in Utah. I was preparing to serve a mission and living with my sister. I already had my mission call to Argentina and was scheduled to report to the MTC in 4 1/2 weeks, when I decided to attend a single adult activity one night (something that I had been avoiding), and met Isaac. He asked me out on a date before I could sneak out of the activity. We hit it off pretty quickly, but Isaac was scheduled to report to Fort Rucker, AL for flight school at about the same time I was supposed to report to the MTC, so we had to make a quick decision. We decided to elope! I had only known him for 4 weeks and 1 day, but when you know it is right there is no point in beating around the bush. I followed him to Alabama as his wife. Now nine years later we are back in AL, this time with a load of kids and Isaac as an instructor pilot. Life has been wonderful!

I stay very busy with the kids. I homeschool Savannah who is in 2nd grade, Charlotte who is in 1st grade, and Madelynn who is just learning her letter sounds and how to write. Zach is a monster! I need at least 4 arms to keep him out of trouble. Miss Caroline is my only good one left! She doesn't get into anything, doesn't talk back, or whine. She is a sweet, smiley baby. I love homeschooling, I love being with my kids, and I love being a mom.

Isaac is a Scout Master, loves to work outside, run, cook, and fly. He genuinely loves people and, as a result, people love him; he has never met a stranger.

We enjoy cooking together as a family; we host a family every Sunday for dinner. We try to go on weekly hikes with our kids. We have usually lived in areas where we can raise sheep, goats, and chickens, as well as have a garden. We are also big on emergency preparedness and actively work towards being more self-sufficient. We would like to get a study group going here in AL soon, centered around the principles of the Constitution, as we have done in the past.
