- Temple baptism on 10 Mar 1971. She was baptized when she was 8, but the only record showed the year 1891... She was first engaged to Lester E. Pierson (born 1885-Darke, Ohio?) He gave her a necklace and left on a business trip. He stated they would be married when he returned. He never returned. Neither his parents nor any friends heard from him again. Assumption was he was murdered or died on the trip. She always had the necklace. !Newspaper article - 1907 Invitations have been issued for the marriage of Miss Jennie Elizabeth Peterson to Charles Arthur Nichols, to take place Tuesday, July 2, at the residence of the bride's mother, 749 South Second East. Justice Straup of the Supreme Court will perform the ceremony and a reception will be given the couple after the ceremony, between 8 and 10 o'clock in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Nichols will make a short Eastern trip. The bride is a popular young lady, who was formerly chief stenographer in the office of the Pacific Mutual Insurance Company, and the groom is one of the best-know printers in the country, having last year broken the world's linotype record. They will reside at 309 South Fifth East, where they will be at home after August 15. ~Patriarchal Blessing A Patriarchal Blessing given under the hands of the Patriarch Harrison Sperry upon the head of Jennie Peterson Nichols, a daughter of Andrew and Jennie Wesley Peterson. August 30, 1914. Jennie Nichols, as a servant of the Lord I lay my hands upon our head and give you a Patriarchal Blessing. Thou are worthy of the Blessings of Heaven for you are God's own child and he has placed you here upon the earth for a wise purpose that you might have an experience and to qualify yourself for the duties that will be assigned unto you. Blessings await you that you know not of. But they will come to you unawares and unexpected for the Lord's eye is is upon you, and for your faithfulness and your great desires the Lord will give you the greate desires of your heart, for there is blessings that you have sought after and if you are faithful and true the Lord will grant these desires unto you. Your health shall improve for you have great faith. Your live shall be prolonged as long as you desire to dwell upon the earth. Be thou comforted for Proventual the Lord will give you offspring which will be great joy unto you. But if not thou shall be a mother behind the veil. Upon this earth you shall have many blessings bestowed upon you. For your home shall be a joy and comfort unto you. Your name is written in the lambs Book of Life and you are entitled to the blessings of the new and everlasting covenant . If you are faithful and true the Lord will privilege you to enter the Temple of the Lord to perform the vicarious work for your kindred and also for yourself for you are of noble linage. Thou are of Joseph through the loins of Ephriam. Sister, be thou blessed and comforted of the Lord for he loved you most dearly and has watched over you ever since your advent here upon the earth. Your table will be spread with the bounties of the earth. You will never want for bread, through your diligence the Lord will provide. As a servant of the Lord I place my hands upon your head and seal you up to come forth in the morning of the First Resurrection, where you will be crowned with glory, immortality, and eternal life and to dwell in a mansion of glory that will be prepared for you. This Blessing I seal upon your head by the authority of the Priesthood I hold. But it is predicated upon your faithfulness. Even so, Amen. !Obituary for Jennie P. Born June 19, 1883, Salt Lake City, a daughter of Andrew and Jennie Wesley Phillips Peterson. Married Charles A. Nichols, Salt Lake City, 1900. He died. Chapter president, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Employee, Salt Lake County recorder's office. Active in Republican party. Survivors, brother-in-law, B. E. Smith's Family Passes Away. One of the First Mormons Mrs. Catharine Salisbury, Sister of the Founder of Mormonism, dies at the Age of 87 - Aunt of Patriarch John Smith and Mrs. C. S. Nichols of this City - Came to Illinois with the Mormons, but Had Never been to Utah - Was a Strong Woman Mentally and Physically. Mrs. Catharine Salisbury, sister of the prophet, Joseph Smith, and the last survivor of that family, died at her home in Fountain Green, Ill., on February 1st, at the age of eighty-seven. Mrs. Salisbury was one of the first six members of the Mormon church, and lived through many trying and exciting incidents. She was always known as a woman of remarkably strong character, and retained her physical and mental faculties almost unimpaired until the time of her death. Although an octogenarian, she was able to read and sew without the aid of glasses and took a lively interest in all topics of the day. The direct cause of her death was cancer of the stomach. Mrs. Salisbury was born at Lebanon, N. H., in 1812. In 1831 she was married to Wilking J. Salisbury and survived him almost fifty years. She came with the Mormons as far as Illinois, but when the emigration across the plains took place, she remained in Illinois, and had never been in Utah. Of a good-sized family, three sons survive her, Don Carlos, Solomon, and Frederick Salisbury. John Smith, the patriarch of the church, is a nephew of Mrs. Salisbury, and Mrs. C. S. Nichols and her two children, C. A. Nichols and her two children, C. A. Nichols of The Tribune and Mrs. Mose Christensen of Ogden, are also relatives, Mrs. Nichols being a niece of Mrs. Salisbury.
