They were married in Provo by bishop Turley once the divorce was granted after petitions of my grandfather with repeated hearings as stated in the court record. In the history written by Ralph Gibbs Smith, Martha Sophia Robey ran away shortly after their marriage. She gave birth in one of the Utah mining towns to a son conceived before she and John ever met. She was pregnant by another man before they ever met and were married.

I have always wanted to do some DNA analysis of the paternal Smith line to determine if the son of Sidney Robey Smith is indeed a Smith or not. I have decided to let it lie. ---jsbeardall---
