- My father, Alan Russell hine, named after his uncle Allan foreman Young, was born on June 3 1921 at Camberwell Victoria the second child of Horace Roy and Isobel Elizabeth Hine ( Young). His elder brother Geoffrey William was born in 1920 and his sisters Pamela Elizabeth was born in 1929 and Barbara Anne, born 1932. The family lived at "Holyrood' 33 Fairfield Avenue Camberwell until they married. My father and his brother commenced their school life at Camberwell Grammar School. My father attended between the years February 1927 - December 1936 where he was a Sports Champion during the years 1933- 1934. His records written into the "Grammarian" indicate a sprint and high jump champion for those years and receoiving many awards and medals. he commenced his working life at Colonial Mutual Life Insurance Co. and later following the end of the war joined the ranlks of the power industry, moving to Yallourn as a Claims Officer for the SEC. At that stage the power industry was both dynamic and progressive attracting many families in the prospering community. Later with the advent of the Morwell Power station being commissioned he transferred as the Claims Superintendant at the Morwell site. Here the family remained until his retirement from the SEC returning to the city and commencing employment with Bishopsgate Insurance company where his friend Guy Cassells was the General Manager. My parents purchased a home in Highett where they remained until the death of my mother in 1972. Shortly thereaftermy father retired to a property in Corinella, a small beachside town on Phillip Islansd where he remained until his death on the 5 July 1993. he is buried in the Corinella cemetery My father when he left school joined the peacetime militia and later at the outbreak of WW2 in 1939 joined the Australian Imperial Force as a regular army person. Liz Board former Principal of the junior school at St Annes Sale is now the Development Officer at Camberwell Grammar and she supplied the information for me - the archivist when he/she returns in Feb will provide further information.
