Ann Adalaide Dennis Jaussi 1910 ~ 2008 Ann Adalaide Dennis Jaussi, age 98, died on September 17, 2008 at her home in Santaquin, Utah. She was born in Provo, Utah on July 12, 1910 to John and Zina Dennis, the fifth oldest of nine children. She was a great-granddaughter of Hyrum Smith. She attended elementary school and high school in Provo. When she was nineteen, her father died in an accident in the Utah Mammoth Mine. At that time she went to Salt Lake to assist her sister with twin babies, and to work as a cook at the Sigma Chi fraternity. Later she returned to Provo to help her mother run a boarding house. It was at the boarding house that she met her sweetheart, J. William (Bill) Jaussi, while he was attending Brigham Young University. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 21, 1932, with the ceremony performed by her cousin, Joseph Fielding Smith. During World War II, Bill joined the US Navy, and Ann worked four years as a secretary at the Geneva Defense Plant (Geneva Steel). After the war, Ann was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and served as president for two years. At this time they were blessed with a wonderful baby boy named Stephen, who was the joy of her life. When Bill returned from the war, he and Ann purchased a jewelry store and pawn shop, Provo Loan and Jewelry. When they sold the jewelry store, Bill went into the building construction business with a partner, and Ann served as secretary-treasurer of the business. Ann was a gifted musician and sang the lead in her high school musical. When she was a young girl she would visit her grandmother, Martha Ann Smith, and practice playing her pump organ. Ann played the accordian, piano and organ by ear and could play all day without repeating a song. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Geneva, Idaho where she and Bill played together in the town dance band. She enjoyed all the arts, and was skilled in creating oil paintings. Ann was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught classes and served in leadership in Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society. She was a visiting teacher until her 90 birthday. She and Bill served for eight years in the Provo Temple. Bill and Ann enjoyed BYU football and basketball and were faithful members of the Cougar Club, seldom missing a game. A highlight of their experience was traveling with the football team to Hawaii and Japan. Ann and Bill shared seventy-five years together living happily in many homes and places: Paris, Idaho; Geneva, Idaho; Provo, Utah; Orem, Utah; a home at the mouth of Provo Canyon; and their present home in Santaquin. Upon retirement, they purchased a summer home at Flaming Gorge, where together they enjoyed fishing and entertaining family and friends. Ann was known as a devoted mother and grandmother, a loyal wife and a cherished friend. She was a gentle and cultured woman who was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, J. W. Jaussi; a son Stephen and his wife, Vickie; four grandchildren: Sonia Jaussi, Jacqueline Beveridge, Stephanie (Richard) Wise and Jason (Maggie) Jaussi and eleven great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Alpine Hospice nurses and attendants for loving care for Ann, and to her granddaughters Jackie and Stephanie. Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 22 at the Santaquin 5th Ward Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 90 S. 200 E. at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held Sunday, Sept. 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary 185 E. Center Provo, and at the 5th Ward Chapel one hour prior to the funeral services. Graveside services will be held at the Santaquin City Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
