- BIOGRAPHY: Published - Henry Crane was born about 1635; it is not known whether he was born in Old or New England. He was engaged in business with his brother Benjamin in Wethersfield as farmers, and tanners and curriers of leather. He was there as early as 1655, possibly earlier. He removed to Guilford where in 1660 he is recorded as a planter. About the year 1663 he married Concurrence, daughter of John Meigs, son of Vincent Meigs. While in Guilford Henry Crane's residence was on the east side of the town, near Killingworth line. His land deed in Guilford was conveyed in June 1670; his lot in Killingworth was #21. He was called upon by a vote of the town of Killingworth to become the schoolmaster, and Henry Crane was one of the leading spirits, and he continued to merit the confidence and esteem of his fellow-townsmen throughout his entire life.
Henry Crane was an active member of the Killingworth Train Band and gained the position of lieutenant May 1676, and in due course reached the rank and title of captain. He was active in the community and served as Court appointee.
After the death of his wife, Concurrence in Killingworth 9 Oct, 1708, he then married 26 Dec 1709 Deborah Champion, widow of Henry Champion of Lyme, Conn. He died 22 Apr 1711. His widow then married Richard Towner. Henry Crane is buried in the old cemetery at Killingworth.
His first three children were born in Guilford, the other seven were born in Killingworth.
