So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

Campbell, Jonathan, one of the presidents of the 5th quorum of Seventy, is the son of Jonathan Campbell and Lucinda Shipman, and was born Nov. 14, 1853, in North Ogden. Weber county, Utah. His father was acquainted with the Prophet Joseph Smith, worked on the Nauvoo Temple, and was a member of the famous Mormon Battalion. Jonathan was baptized when about eight years old, received a limited education and was raised a farmer. After an unsuccessful attempt at farming in Malad valley, he went to Park Valley, Box Elder county, in 1871, and became the first settler in what is now called Rosette, in the west end of the valley; he also engaged in freighting, between Kelton station and Boise City, Idaho, and other northern points; but though he was constantly thrown into the company of wicked men, he kept himself pure and led a virtuous life. April 27, 1879, he married Miss Sariah J. Raleigh, daughter of Bishop Alonzo H. Raleigh, having previously been ordained an Elder, Dec. 21, 1884, he was ordained a Seventy by Lorenzo Hunsaker and became identified with the 5th quorum; subsequently he became a president of said quorum. For many years he labored as a Ward Teacher in the Park Valley Ward, became an officer in the Y. M. M. I. A., and superintendent of the Park Valley Sunday school. In 1899 he was called on a mission to the Eastern States, from which he has not yet returned. Elder Campbell writes: "I have a nice family, consisting of a wife and ten children, of whom I feel justly proud. My children have all been taught the true gospel, and they have faith in God. They are all healthy and strong, and I have never had a doctor in my house since I became the head of a family." Besides his positions in the Church, Elder Campbell has filled a number of secular offices. Thus he was the first postmaster in Rosette, and had the honor of naming the office. He has also served as precinct constable and road supervisor.

When a young man by the name of Jonathan Campbell took a load of wood into Kelton seeing me and knowing who I was asked me to go stay with him for one year and told me he would give me a colt if I would. I got on his wagon and went home with him. I did not see or hear of the Stuart family until after I was married.I stayed with Jonathan a year and while I was with him his brother Helaman got struck over the head with a hoe an d left him insane. He struck .father and wanted to kill him but they wouldn't let him and he wanted to take me up the creek into the canyon in the night but they wouldn't let me go. instead they put me on a horse and sent me three miles after help. I went and got a man by the name of Adam Larsen and some other help didn't get back to Campbell son till after sunrise Helaman locked himself up in a room and wouldn't let anybody in. Adam Larsen went to the door and asked him to let him in. He said who is there? It is Ad Larsen, he said I don't want to see you. They sent me after Jonathan, who was working down Duft Creek about four miles. So Jonathan immediately went home. They fixed up a team for the purpose of taking him to North Ogden. When Jonathan arrived he demanded him to open the door which he did, after they were ready to go with him they asked him to get into the wagon which he obeyed. They took him to North Ogden and placed him in the hands of a younger man by the name of William Jerrard. He handled him with a black whip until he was doctored and better.
I stayed with Jonathan Campbell a year as he asked me to. He gave me the colt. While I was staying with him we had quite a few different kinds of experiences. He had a wild cow that I had milked a few times and once he had on his best pants and decided he was going to milk the cow. When he sit down to her the cow kicked him on the leg a and tore his pants. He got up a and gave the cow a beaten and told me to milk her he wasn't going to milk her any more. Another time he was going to kill a pig He shot the pig twice, knocked it down with the ax, stuck a knife into its throat. When he thought the pig was dead he stuck it into a barrel of scalding water and it kicked himself out. So he had to wait until the pig died before he could scald him.
