The Rev. was married twice and had many children so this source helps to clarify issues that have been mistakenly merged and mixed on Family Tree. The article is from 345-351. Other than its error in the surname for this John Lathrop's wife, this source is helpful to trace several generations and to name this John's children. In E. B. Huntington, "A Genealogical Memoir of the Lo-Lathrop Family in this Country," page 42, the author describes this John Lothrop, son of Rev. John Lathrop. "JOHN, born in Barnstable, Mass., Feb. 9, 1644, and married Jan. 3,, 1671-2 at Plymouth, Mass., Mary, probably daughter of James and Mary (Tilson) Cobb [sic] of Scituate, where she was born Dec. 8, 1653. His name on the marriage record is Laythrope, and she is called Mary Colagain. He married 2) Dec. O, 1695, Hannah, widow of Dr. Fuller. He died Sept. (18) 27, 1727, at 11 o'clock a.m., and is recorded as 85 years old, on the Barnstable church records.... His will, Book IV, p. 407, dated Mar. 9, 1726-7, and probated Feb. 9, 1727-8, names as his legatees his wife Hannah; son John's son Joseph; the children of his daughter Mary Howland, and those of his daughter Elizabeth Lewis; and his sons, Barnabas and Benjamin. His son Barnabas and his wife Hannah are executors." From this record alone, one can see that in the first 2 generations alone there are repeats of given names that require serious effort from primary source or reliably researched data to not mix them up. This family has been a merged nightmare largely because someone has tried to invent him as son of Joseph.
