Richard deClare the Surety, a record of whose ancestry and achievements appears at (58), was 4th East of Hertford, and died in 1217. His descend from Sveide the Viking is traced at p. (421). His great great grandfather, Richard FitzGilbert de Clare, a second cousin of Wm the Conqurer, p. 182, was Chief Justice of Eng and desc from Alfred the Great and Charlemagne.
