- The Spalding Memorial by Charles Warren Spalding, 1896 edition, page 73, entry #9 records (spelling as in memorial): "John, born about 1631; he dies 1721; married Hannah Hale, May 18, 1658. They were married at Concord, Massachusetts by Major Simon Willard. She died August 14, 1689. He is the eldest son of Edward Spalding, and came to Chelmsford with his father about 1654. He was made a freeman March 11, 1689-1690. In the Town Records, under the date of November 16, 1655, "John Spalding is granted a piece of upland, two acres more or less betwixt his Hous Lorr & the Lott of Samuel Richardson." Also, under the date of January 7, 1659, "it is exidenssed that John Spalding hath the Swamp granted to him that lyes between his Lott and John Shepley's Lott, provided he leave a highway to the S'd Swamp for the Town to take of the wood 7 lumber."
In 1683 the entry record of the Town grants of land to his use is entered as follows: "The Record of Accommodation of Upland and Meadow granted by the Town of Chelmsford to John Spalding, with the Bounds and Butments of the same. His upland first. Ours Hous Lott Seventeen acres more or less Bounded by the land of Isaiah Richardson North; South by the land of John Shipley; West by the Town Commen." Also "12 acres on the South Bank of the Merrimack River; 9 acres lying on the Town Common, & 6 acres in Newfield." His meadow land was 2 1/2 acres in the "River Meadow," and 6 1/2 acres at "further Tadmuck," 2 1/2 acres at "Stoney Brook;" and 6 1/2 acres on the Town Highway, in a;; 58 acres. There was also conferred on him, January 29, 1696, "Six acres of Meadow, bounded easterly by Nebanusek Pond."
"He died at Chelmsford, October 3, 1721, at age 88. No Will. In Hull's Journal of the War expenses 1675 and 1676, John Spalding is mentioned as a Soldier under Captain Manning, in the war known as "King Philip's War." His children were as follows: John, Eunice, Edward, Hannah, Samuel, Deborah, Joseph, and Timothy."

John was the son of Edward Spalding and Edwards's first wife Margaret. John married Hannah Hale on 18 May 1658 at Concord, Massachusetts, by Major Simeon Willard. Hannah died on 14 August 1689.
John came to Chelmsford, with his father in about 1654. He was made a freeman on 11 March 1689-90. In Hull's Journal of the War's expenses 1675 and 6, John Spalding is mentioned as a Soldier under Captain Manning, in the war known as "King Philip's War."
John Spalding later married Mary Stowe or Stow in Chelmsford. The "Massachusetts Town Marriage Records" indicates that John Spauldyng married Widow Mary Fletcher. Mary's parents were Thomas Stow and Mary Griggs.
Mary Stow Fletcher was born on 6 February 1643 in Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts. She first married John Cotton. Her second husband was Samuel Fletcher (1632-1697) the son of Robert and Lydia Fletcher.
