    • --Other Fields Earl of Arundel and Sussex and a favorite of King John. He witnessed John's concession of the kingdom to the pope on May 15, 1213. He accompanied John to Runnymede on June 15, 1215. He became one of the sureties for his faithful observance of the Charter, but on John's abandonment of Winchester to Louis, on June 14, 1216, he went over to the winning side. After the royalist victory at Lincoln he returned to his allegiance in 1217 and shortly after acted as justiciar. In 1218 he set sail for the East. He took part in the siege of Camietta in 1219. William died in Italy in March of 1221.       William d'Aubigny was an English nobleman, a favourite of King John, and a participant in the Fifth Crusade. [JimLutz1]

      He died on his journey home, in Caneill, Italy, near Rome, on 1 February 1221. News of his death reached England on 30 March 1221. He was brought home and buried at Wymondham Abbey. [Wikipedia.]
