    • Acceded: abt 1160 - In 1160 founded the monastry at Paisley, for monks of the Clunic order, from the convent of Wenlock in his native Salop. Ref: http://www3.dcs.hull.ac.uk/cgi-bin/gedlkup/n=royal?04028 The father of Alan (the 2nd High Steward of Scotland) was Walter Fitzalan who died in 1177. This Walter, known as Walter Fitzalan, went to Scotland as one of the military aides of King David I. He was the second son of Alan Fitzflaad, a Norman chieftain who came into England with William, the Conqueror, in 1066, and was given land in Shropshire. He was known as Walter Fitzalan the 1st High Steward of Scotland.
