| Notes |
- From: "Fifty Great Migration Colonists To New England" By John W. Threfall, Madison, Wisconsin, 1990, page 131:
"MATTHEW COLBY lived in Pointon, a village or chapelry in the parish of Sempringham, Lincolnshire. He was probably born about 1530. He married Mary -------, probably about 1555. He had at least two brothers and a sister also living in Sempringham. The names of his parents are unknown. Matthew Colby was buried 10 October 1591, his wife Mary on 18 December 1591, followed soon by their two youngest children, four in all dying within a three month period. Both parents left deathbed wills in which they stated that they were sick. One can wonder at what sort of epidemic struck this family. Horbling is just to the north of Sempringham."
