Letter from Alan Dayley, October 2, 2013
I do have some memories of Marva that may be of interest to you. She and I were "co-deans" for Women and Men from 1962 to1966, then, from 1966 to 1972 I was her supervisor in my role as Dean of Students.
She retired "early" in 1972 at the age of "55" (she was really 65, but we all went along with the 55 story).
She prided herself as "the whistle-bait of the senior set" on campus. Her fire-red hair matched well her "get-up-and-go" approach to her position. The women in the Sororities and AWS (Associated Women Students) appreciated her counsel, advice, and encouragement in their acitivities and their personal lives.
She was a role-model Dean of Women in virtually every way.
After she retired, I would get an occasional report of her activities from her neighbors, Phyllis and Frank VanWagonen in Provo, Utah. The Van Wagonens were my wife's Aunt and Uncle (we would see them at various family gatherings).. From all reports, she was very active and engaged to the very end - well into her "60's" !
Alan J. Dayley, Ph.D.
