| Notes |
- Kirstine was born in Borod, Soro, Denmark, 24 Aug 1813. She was married to Peder (Peter) Larsen, 18 April 1834 in Slagelse, Soro, Denmark. Kirstine died in Manti, Sanpete, Utah, 1 June 1898.
She was baptized 12 June 1853. Their oldest daughter did not join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with the rest of the family, and stayed behind in Denmark. She would have been twenty eight when the others in the family immigrated to the United States to join with the Saints in Utah.
In April 1862, the family left Denmark from Copenhagen and traveled to Hamburg, Germany, where their ship, the Athenia was to set sail. While it was anchored for a few days before embarking for America, Kirstine’s and Peter’s son, Hans Henry Petersen married Julia Marie Larsen. (Note that his last name follows his father’s–Peder or Peter.)
It was good that the family started the voyage with a happy experience. While on the sea, there was a great deal of sickness on the Athenia with many deaths recorded. One of those was the Larsens’ 4 year old son, Jacob. He contacted measles and became very weak. There were some families on the ship who had brought butter along with them and were hoarding it for their own use. Others saved every drop of grease to put on their bread. Annie tried to beg someone to share with Jacob. She thought it would give him strength to fight off the disease and add nourishment to his meager diet. Nobody would, and she remembered the experience with bitterness, as he had to be buried at sea.
Ane Kirstine and Peder (Peter) and most of their family settled in Manti, Sanpete, Utah.
She raised her grandson Jacob, and he remembers the love and affection that his grandmother showed him. She always gave him a few pennies to spend, and convinced her husband to let him buy some “store bought” shoes so he wouldn’t have to keep wearing his wooden ones.
(Because of the country change from Denmark to the United States, her name sometimes appears as
Anne Kristine, Annie, and other spellings.)
