- BIOGRAPHY:
The area which became the town of Concord was originally known as "Musketaquid", situated at the confluence of the Sudbury and Assabet rivers. The area was largely depopulated by the smallpox plague that swept across the Americas after the arrival of Europeans. In 1635, a group of settlers from Britain led by Rev . Peter Bulkley and Major Simon Willard negotiated a land purchase with the remnants of the local tribe. They exchanged wampum, hatchets, knives, cloth, and other useful items for the six-square-mile purchase which formed the basis of the new town, called "Concord" in appreciation of the peaceful acquisition.
William, Hannah's father, was an early settler of Concord. The only child with a birth record is Hanna.
In William's will, eldest son Samuel is mentioned, along with sons Nehemiah and Isaac, and daughter Elizabeth Barns, in that order. Hannah is not mentioned and may have died young.
With no birth record for Elizabeth, it is hard to say when she was born. Her last known child was born in 1672; if she was 40 at that time, she may have been born about 1632. Hard to say. She may have been born in England, if she was born before 1635. She may have been born in Concord, if she was born about 1635 or after, or even during passage from England.
At some point, her father moved to Marlborough, and it is there that Elizabeth married:
Hunt, Elizabeth and John Barron, Apr. 1, 1664.
But their children were born in Groton:
Barron, John, s. John, Apr. 4, 1665. CTR
Baron, Elizabeth, d. Jonathan, Sept. 28, 1667. CTR (I think this is an error in the original record, and should say John, not Jonathan)
Barron, John, s. Moses, Mar. 26, 1669. CTR (this may also be an error in the original record, and should be Moses s. of John)
Barron, Ellizer, s. John, June 14, 1672. CTR
There is no birth record for Dorothy.
Elizabeth's husband left a will. He died in Groton, 1 January 1693. His will was dated 23 Dec 1692, exhibited 17 Mary 1693, naming wife Elizabeth, sons John [eldest], Moses and Elias; daughters Elizabeth and Dorotie; "my Loveing Brethren Nehemiah Hunt and Moses Barron".
