- Descent From the English Crown - William II ca. 1056-1100 King of England, 3rd son of King William I and his wife, Mathilda, was immediately crown King William II of England, upon his father's death in 1087. He was very ruthless, cruel and rude, so soon became very unpopular with the classes of all, became known as the "William Rufus, the Red" and made many enemies. He was killed on a hunting trip by an arrow, accidently or otherwise, in 1100. He was unmarried so left no heirs. The went to his brother, Henry I, youngest brother.
