OBIT: Bebe Yvonne Andersen was born in Carterton New Zealand the youngest of three children, a little sister to Richard and Sybil. She spent only one year of life there, emigrating to Castlereagh, NSW, Australia with her family.
The years of life at Castlereagh she retold with delight in memories wistful genre of the orange orchards, the mysterious missing circus wild cats and the electrical storms that embraced their home with power in the summers of those years. Her school, Castlereagh Public and local Anglican church were just a few miles away, where she walked and attended the dance halls of her teenage years.
Old black and white photos reveal a wealthy upper class life of fashionable womens attire, as
her father, Richard Christian Andersen was an excellent business man, with a fruit delivery
business into the Blue Mountains. Her beauty was in her petite facial form, graceful figure and
lovely soft hair, that framed her pretty face. Schooling was at a womens college until the age of
15 whence she commenced work in the family fruit shop.
As time progressed my father, William Hale Wright, caught the attention of my mother at the
dance hall and they swiftly married and honeymooned on a motorbike all the way to Queensland.
My mother was highly creative in cooking, sewing and loved to discuss the various stories of the
Second World War as in those years, her father pinned a world map to the kitchen wall revealing
the advancement of the various armies throughout Europe. She often told me of having to build
trenches at school and hang black out curtains on the windows in their home in Western Sydney.
The era of the 1950's and 1960's and 1970's remains in my mind of the home life my mother created with lovely meals, supportive school parenting and keeping us in close contact with our cousins and grandmother who lived locally. Afternoon teas on Saturdays were always a children's treat with such a large selection of home made cakes and cups of tea. Of this I learnt to cook well.
As my father adored the ocean and fishing, camping and adventure, my mother adapted to the vast range of activities that encircled our family life as each school break we travelled away to the coast for exciting times in close confines in our caravan life together. Merimbula, Taree and Woolgoolga were the favourite beach side venues.
Sweet memories as a child were running through the freshy washed white sheets laughing in
happiness to just be with my mother, to hear her laugh and see her beautiful smile. We holidayed in New Zealand as an extended family and that too was most amazing, enjoying the closeness of three generations travelling in a car around my grandfather's home country.
In 1976 our family travelled together to the USA for a 30 day holiday and I always remember this
most memorable visual period of discovering the beauty and intrigue of this country. My mother was a woman of the Christian faith and ensured we attended classes and religious activities from a young age, to provide us with strong morals and a secure framework of Biblical teaching. She even visited Israel and had a tree planted there in her support of the growth of the country, Bebe, as my siblings and I affectionately called her in our adult years, always provided sweets in a special drawer, for late night television watching, with chocolate biscuits, and her home cooked roast lamb Sunday lunches were a speciality, when we watched the Disney midday movies. The home made apple pie pastries with custard were completely the best I have ever tasted.
As an avid reader, I always believed she was a highly observant and literate woman, our
conversations were animated and interesting. She also excelled in golf as my father of 0
handicap for 30 years, coached her stating she had a good strong drive. As I write these words of happy memories, tears well in my eyes and emotion fills my heart as now she has left this earthly life to journey into her eternal destiny. It was on 2 January 2021, the year the pandemic came, the great wave of illness, to wave my mother goodbye. Bebe Yvonne Andersen, I thank you for the rich happiness of womanly virtues you endowed within me, your commitment to the Queen of England, your respect for Vladimir Putin and your homeland of Danmark live on through my words and art. May all the sweetness of peace and a life well lived bless you for all time. Love your youngest daughter - Kristine Jennifer Wright - Christine Melody Andersen
